| Resumo | The rational management of natural resources in tropical regions requires the implementation of a data collection system allowing the development of regular inventories. Among thse systems, the remote sensing technique, mainly those using orbital data, present a confirmed level of efficiency for monitoring, inventory and management of forested areas. This work intends to present a method to quantify the aerial phytomass of tropical forest by means of spectral data obtained from TM-Landsat and HRV-SPOT. The first step consists in collecting field data of all physiognomies, previously identified in a forest maping. After that the spectral values are obtained from satellite images and they are correlated with the field data. Finally, the regression analysis are used to quantify the phytomass. Computer systems "Sistema Interativo de Tratamento de Imagens"- SITIM and "Sistema Geografico de Informacoes"- SGI are used to the data processing and to map aerial phytomass. The methodology has been tested with the data from an area that will be flooded by the Hydroeletric Power Plant Porteira, in Trombetas river, Para State, Brazil. |
